Gary J. Cucchiara’s practice is devoted to municipal and land use law; litigation in commercial, employment, personal injury and family law matters; real estate development and transactions; and the formation of business entities.
Mr. Cucchiara has extensive experience as legal counsel to a large number of governmental entities in various capacities. Mr. Cucchiara has been serving as Lyndhurst Township Attorney since May, 2005. He previously served as Attorney for the Boroughs of Rutherford and Leonia, and as an Assistant County Counsel in Essex County. In connection with such service, he has prepared virtually all types of legal documents relating to representation of public entities, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, and legal opinions and memoranda. He has successfully represented public entities with regard to litigation matters, including cases involving injunctive relief, election, employment, taxation, construction, constitutional, eminent domain and land use issues. He has also supervised other attorneys in connection with the representation of public entities.
Mr. Cucchiara has also represented municipalities as labor counsel in Rutherford, tax appeals counsel in Leonia, rent board attorney in Lodi and Rutherford, municipal prosecutor in Moonachie, Rutherford and Secaucus, and public defender in Rutherford. He is currently serving as a hearing officer in connection with employee disciplinary hearings in Essex County and Fair Lawn.
Mr. Cucchiara has represented a variety of clients before local planning and zoning boards in New Jersey in connection with real estate development applications and projects. He has also represented municipalities and private clients with respect to redevelopment projects under the New Jersey Local Redevelopment and Housing Law and affordable housing issues. He has served as planning board attorney in Ho-Ho-Kus, Wood-Ridge, and Lodi, and zoning board of adjustment attorney in Rutherford and Wood-Ridge. He has also served as attorney for the Passaic Redevelopment Agency and the combined planning board and board of adjustment in East Newark. He has had extensive experience litigating land use and construction matters on behalf of both public entities and private clients.
Mr. Cucchiara is a former Councilman in the Borough of Wood-Ridge. He has served as Trustee of the Meadowlands Museum and Chairman of the Civil Rights Commission in Rutherford and President of the Rutherford Lions Club. He has also served as a coach in baseball, basketball and soccer youth leagues in Lebanon Township, New Jersey.
